CNR-STIIMA becomes a member of ESTEP, the European Steel Technology Platform. ESTEP brings together all the main stakeholders of the European steel industry.
Its members are the main steel producers, universities and research institutes active in steel research, steel user industries, public bodies such as the European Commission and national governments.
The European steel industry is a major contributor to economic growth and employment in Europe and is a world leader in steel technology generating around € 200 billion in turnover and 350,000 direct jobs.
ESTEP aims to engage in collaborative actions and projects on new technologies, to support the European community in its challenges (in particular on renewable energy, climate change and the circular economy) in order to create a sustainable European steel industry.

This is done in particular by disseminating the results of the projects, facilitating a favorable environment for collaborative projects, starting from the programming of the Strategic Research Agenda to the active network of collaborations of the ESTEP community.
ESTEP and CNR-STIIMA will collaborate on issues relevant to the future of Europe such as the circular economy in steel sector, the low carbon and energy efficient transformation processes, the energy market and engineering in energy-intensive industries and the smart factory.
