CNR-STIIMA has recently supported Pomini Tenova, the worldwide leader in the production of roll grinders, in publishing the international Environmental Product Declaration of Pomini Digital Texturing™ (PDT™) – a breakthrough technology for surface texturing of rolling mill work rolls.

This Life Cycle Assessment study is compliant with the ISO 14025:2006 standard and it constitutes the first LCA on a digital texturing machine.

The results of the LCA study were registered on the EPD® Portal – the platform of the International EPD® System, the world’s leading global LCA programme operator in accordance with the ISO 14025, TS/14027, 14040, a.o. standards – and is now accessible to all users (link).

This is a massive activity that involved a high number of stakeholders from the development of Product Category Rule PCR 2021:10 Machine tools for material working by removal of material by laser or similar, in addition to the LCA study validation.

Such effort can provide significant progress in LCA standardization and technology transfer for eco-efficiency in the metalworking sector. The LCA certifies the effort of Pomini Tenova to understand the main environmental hotspots of the PDT™ machine, aiming at continuous improvement over time, further increasing the value brought to the customers.
