A NETWORK OF EXCELLENCE FOR RESEARCH, INNOVATION AND COMPETITIVENESS IN THE DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM DISEASES IS ESTABLISHED IN SOUTHERN ITALY

The project, Co-funded by the European Union under the National Programme for Research, Innovation and Competitiveness 2021–2027, promoted by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR) and the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (MIMIT) and coordinated by the Center for Biomolecular Nanotechnologies of the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Lecce, involves 18 partners and represents a total investment of more than €18 million over two years. It is a follow-up to projects funded through the PNRR funds, with impacts and benefits extending to Southern Italy.

The National Research Council (CNR) is a partner and is participating through its STIIMA, IMATI, IBF, and NANOTEC Institutes, as well as the UVR unit.

The project involves the creation of an Innovation Hub called GENESI and the implementation of a scientific programme, GEMINI, both focused on new digital and experimental patient-oriented technologies for the development of personalized therapies for diseases of the central nervous system.

The new Innovation Hub will be headquartered in the province of Lecce, with locations in several cities in Southern Italy (Bari, Naples, Cagliari, Caserta, Pozzuoli and Palermo), as well as in Genoa.
