The laboratory carries out measurement activities in the field of the chemical-physical characterisation of materials with the aim of determining the properties relating to the processability of materials, the behaviour of products in service and possible failure analysis. The techniques used include: optical microscopy, hyperspectral images, mechanical tests. Mechanical properties are studied with particular reference to the stress-strain behaviour and static strength of materials and structures.

The laboratory works in synergy with the Polymer Matrix Composites laboratory in Milan and the Micro Injection Moulding and Mechatronics and Prototype Development laboratories at the Bari branch.
