The laboratory, established in 2018 through an implementation agreement signed by CNR-STIIMA with the University of Bologna, is based at the Montecuccolino centre of the Department of Industrial Engineering of UNIBO.

The laboratory’s activities are devoted to the design, development and validation in a relevant environment of: transducers based on multifunctional materials; actuators with innovative mechanical transmissions; mechatronic systems and customised robots for specific applications.

Applications are aimed at the following sectors: automatic machines for packaging, in general, and for those in the pharmaceutical, cosmetics and agri-food sectors, in particular; automatic machines for functional testing, assembly, remanufacturing and recovery of integrated circuits in the electronics sector; automation of handling and processing processes, in general, and in the footwear, clothing, ceramics, glass, paper, wood and plastics sectors, in particular; handling and assembly of miniaturised components for the biomedical, aerospace and automotive sectors; collaborative robotics.
