This research study is aimed at the creation of a standard method applicable to the determination of microplastics (MP) during the whole cycle of industrial processes and their life cycle and garments. The typical morphology of textile Mps is fibrous and their dimension can vary depending on the construction parameters of yarns and fabrics or on washing conditions. The method is designed to provide the nature, numerical concentration, surface area, etc of MP by Optical Microscopy and Vibrational Spectroscopy and it evaluates their ecotoxicological aspect.
It is presented in ISO (International Organization for Standardization) and CEN (European Committee for Standardization) as the standard “PrENISO 4484-2 Textiles – Microplastics from textile sources” – Part 2.
