SIADD - Soluzioni innovative per la qualità e la sostenibilità dei processi di additive manufacturing

SIADD, launched on 1 July 2019, aims to improve the quality and manufacturing sustainability (economic, environmental and personnel well-being) of some AM processes of metallic, composite and multi-material metal/composite materials.
The objectives will be pursued through extensive industrial research aimed at:

  • significantly reduce defects generated by metal AM processes;
  • implement innovative solutions for monitoring of the production processes;
  • achieve a significant lightening of the metal structures;
  • study the production processes, with a focus on the design of materials and process simulatiion;
  • study the manufacturing sustainability of AM processes, evaluating both the economic potential and the cost / benefit relationship and providing an effective business model.

The CNR-STIIMA research units (RUs) are involved in 3 of 8 objectives (ORs) of the project. Within the OR5 and OR6, the Research Unit (RU) of Bari, in collaboration with ENEA Brindisi research center, is investigating innovative materials, composites and composite/metal, with enhanced mechanical and chemical-physical properties for aeronautics and marine applications. Materials must be suitable for additive manufacturing preferable for Automated Fiber Placement (AFP) and Continuous Fiber Fabrication (CFF) technologies and should have excellent adhesion to metal surfaces made by AM technologies within other ORs by the project partners. The OR5 focuses on the manufacturing processes and composite materials while the OR6 focuses to the development of high performance and lightweight composite/metal components. Furthermore, the RU of Milan is developing business models for the sustainability of the developed additive technologies.
