The macro topic deals with the development of methodological knowledge and technologies for the conception, design, manufacture and transformation of innovative manufacturing products and devices, including particularly challenging ones that may present geometries with micrometric dimensions and precision and high aspect ratio. In particular, transformation technologies include the mechanical and technological characterisation of pre- and post-transformation materials, manufacturing, assemblies, end-of-life management (recycling or re-manufacturing).
The study of these technologies (such as electrospinning, machining, extrusion, injection, EDM, additive manufacturing at macro and micro level, micro-robotic assembly, collaborative assembly, and the manufacture of flexible electromechanical systems) is carried out both by considering them individually, as part of the process chain for the production of manufactured goods, and in their interaction with operators.
All studies can also make use of modelling techniques and multi-physics or mechatronic numerical simulations.
